More than 7,000 doctors, researchers, non-physician members and interested parties are expected to attend the Diabetes Congress in Berlin. From May 8 to 10, 2024, diabetes experts from the fields of research, practice, industry and clinics will be able to exchange ideas and expand their specialist knowledge in symposia, workshops, poster presentations and free lectures.

DZD Symposium: Current Results of Translational Diabetes Research
The DZD Symposium Diabetes Research from Many Perspectives on May 9 from 4 p.m. offers an overview of the various diabetes research and current research highlights. The DZD will present translational research results with the involvement of young scientists. In addition, the diabetes information portal diabinfo.de and the participation of people with diabetes and interested parties in the DZD (DZD Citizens' and Patients' Advisory Board) will be presented. Under the chairmanship of DZD spokespersons Prof. Martin Hrabě de Angelis and Prof. Michael Roden, the following topics are on the agenda:

  • New mechanisms of remission in prediabetes (Arvid Sandforth, Tübingen)
  • Towards a precise diagnosis of diabetes: visualizing heterogeneity in type 2 diabetes with simple clinical variables (Martin Schön, Düsseldorf)
  • Translational research: The potential of lifestyle interventions (Dr. Heike Vogel, Potsdam / Rehbrücke)
  • New insights into the mechanisms of action of GIP: GLP-1 co-agonists (Prof. Timo Müller, Munich)
  • Participation and information of laypersons and affected persons (Dr. Astrid Glaser, DZD Managing Director)

The Silvia King Prize of the German Diabetes Association (DDG) will also be awarded during the symposium. With this award, the DDG honors scientific work in the field of clinical diabetology.

The extensive congress programme also includes other symposia organized by DZD researchers and designed by DZD researchers:

  • What do we learn from single cell RNA seq approaches about the (patho)physiology of islets of Langerhans in diabetes (Wednesday: 3:15 pm)
  • Gender-specific differences in metabolism (Thursday: 8:30 am)
  • The genetics behind diabetes - new genes and gene regulation mechanisms (German-Danish symposium, Friday: 10:30 am)
  • Innovative models and methods for the investigation of metabolic diseases (Friday: 16:00)

Joint booth of DZD and diabinfo.de
If you would like to learn more about the work of the DZD, you can visit our booth in the Diabetes Forum and find out more about the association, DZD partners, clinical studies, young investigators program and translational diabetes research. The diabetes information portal diabinfo.de will also be at the booth. The portal offers up-to-date, neutral and scientifically proven information on all forms of diabetes mellitus and the prevention of type 2 diabetes via the Internet. Findings from medicine and diabetes research are presented in a generally understandable way. diabinfo.de is a joint service of Helmholtz Munich, the German Diabetes Center (DDZ) in Düsseldorf and the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD).
