Mission
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most widespread diseases in Germany. About six million people have the disease, and it is estimated that just as many have undetected diabetes or are at high risk for the disease (pre-diabetes). Like in all industrial nations in the world, it must be assumed for Germany that the increasing incidence of diabetes observed in recent decades will continue to rise in the future.
The German Center of Diabetes Research aims at developing individualized strategies for the early detection and prevention of the disease and its complications.
Furthermore, personalized causal therapies are being developed which should halt its progression and improve patient care. To this end, detailed research on the underlying causes of diabetes is of critical importance.
