Helmholtz Zentrum Muenchen

HMGU

As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München seeks to develop personalized medicine for the prevention and therapy of diabetes mellitus.

The Diabetes Research Department at Helmholtz Zentrum München understands diabetes to be a systemic disease in which both genetic and environmental factors – in particular lifestyle – play a role. In its endeavor to develop new approaches to therapy, prevention and diagnosis, the research center cooperates closely with the two Munich universities. Emphasis is placed on an integrated research focus with close collaboration between basic and clinical research. A diabetes research matrix ensures that the existing expertise is optimally harnessed and disseminated in three research areas: translational research and clinical projects, molecular mechanisms of diabetes development, and systems biology and modeling.
