What to expect:

  • Prof. Dr. Barbara Ludwig, a DZD researcher and senior physician at Dresden University Hospital, where she heads the specialized outpatient clinic for type 1 diabetes, as well as the islet transplantation program at Dresden University of Technology, discusses new approaches to the treatment of type 1 diabetes. The focus is on artificial pancreas transplants as well as modern technologies that can already help people with type 1 diabetes today.
  • Prof. Dr. Andreas Birkenfeld, Medical Director and Head of the Department of Diabetology, Endocrinology, and Nephrology at the University Hospital of Tübingen, as well as Director of the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) at DZD partner Helmholtz Munich, he reviews current research findings on the prevention and remission of type 2 diabetes. In doing so, he explores the question of whether and how type 2 diabetes can be prevented through lifestyle changes or even reversed—and what role factors such as insulin sensitivity, abdominal fat, and early intervention play in this process.

The event is open to people with diabetes, their family members, and anyone else interested. Questions are very welcome.
