In magazine format and with an engaging layout, the annual report presents the highlights of the three DIfE research priorities: “Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes,” “Nutrition and Aging,” and “Food Choice and Precision Nutrition.”
At the beginning of each focus area, readers can expect a multi-page, easy-to-understand, and comprehensive insight into the following spotlight topics:
- Epigenetics: How nutrition influences the activity of our genes
- Micronutrients in old age: Small molecules, big impact
- Fetal programming: How maternal nutrition influences the brain development of the child
Each spotlight is followed by summaries of other socially relevant research findings.
A look back at two successful years
In addition to research highlights, the report also provides an overview of important internal and external events over the past two years. Special and memorable moments included the establishment of two Heisenberg professorships, a visit from former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, an open house, and the first doctoral symposium with renowned geneticist Prof. Giles Yeo from Cambridge.
The report also focuses on the EPIC-Potsdam study, which celebrated its 30th anniversary during the reporting period, the NAKO health study, in which the DIfE participates with a study center, and the two successful science communication formats “Science on the Spree” and "A Look into the Unknown: The Beauty and Complexity of the Brain."
Furthermore, the report provides readers with interesting insights into the promotion of young talent and institute development. For example, with the pilot project “DIfEzero2035 - Climate-Neutral Research Operations by 2035” carried out in 2023, the DIfE was able to achieve an important milestone on the path to sustainable research.
The 2023-2024 annual report was produced in collaboration with the Frankfurt-based design studio Synchronschwimmer and is available in both print and digital formats.
