New DZG Magazine SYNERGIE Published: “New Paths in Prevention”

DZD News

Many diseases develop long before the first symptoms become visible. This is precisely where the German Centers for Health Research (DZG) come in: They analyze molecular changes at an early stage in order to better understand disease progression and be able to intervene in a targeted manner. This opens up new possibilities for prevention - personalized, predictive and precise. Find out more in the current issue of the DZG magazine SYNERGIE.

This issue contains the following articles (all in German):

  • “Keeping an Eye on Resistance”: Researchers at the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) have investigated the extent to which multi-resistant germs can also be found in the environment.
  • “The Risk Grows with You”: A pilot project of the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) shows how screening might help people with familial hypercholesterolemia.
  • “Fasting Breaks the Vicious Circle”: The German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK) is investigating which lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of cancer.
  • “An App against Alzheimer’s”: A digital memory test developed by the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) aims at enabling early diagnosis of dementia.
  • “From the First Breath”: The German Center for Lung Research (DZL) is investigating how the lifelong strength of the lungs is determined by influences from the parents’ youth.
  • “Taking the Signs Seriously”: Study results from the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) show that remission of prediabetes significantly reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
  • “When Does Prevention for Mental Health Start?”: The German Center for Mental Health (DZPG) focuses on risk groups right from birth.

About the German Centers for Health Research:
The main aim of the German government’s health research program is to combat particularly common diseases, i.e., widespread diseases, more effectively. By establishing the DZG as long-term, equal partnerships of non-university research institutions with universities and university hospitals, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the federal states are creating the conditions for reaching this aim.
Several thousand basic researchers, clinical researchers and physicians are working in one of Germany’s largest health research networks to bring medical progress to patients faster – across research disciplines and organizations.
