Timo Müller Honored with the 2026 ADA Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award

At the 2026 Scientific Sessions, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) honored DZD researcher Prof. Timo Müller with the prestigious Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award. The award recognizes scientists whose research is distinguished by exceptional originality, independent thinking, and a lasting impact on diabetes research.

Timo Müller’s groundbreaking discoveries have fundamentally transformed the scientific understanding of obesity and diabetes. His work has provided key insights into the biology of the GIP receptor in the central nervous system and paved the way for the development of next-generation incretin-based polyagonists. In doing so, he has made a decisive contribution to the advancement of therapeutic strategies and opened up new perspectives for the treatment of metabolic diseases. 

With more than 200 publications in leading international journals, Müller is one of the world’s leading figures in metabolic research. His research is a major driver of innovation in diabetes research and metabolic medicine. 

 

About Prof. Dr. Timo D. Müller 

Prof. Dr. Timo D. Müller is a DZD researcher, Director of the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Munich, and Professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He is internationally recognized as a leading expert in metabolic research, with a strong focus on developing innovative therapies for obesity and diabetes. 

Prof. Müller is considered a pioneer of GLP1-based dual and triple agonists and has made key contributions to the understanding of GIP receptor biology and metabolic regulation. 

He has received numerous honors for his outstanding scientific achievements, including the ADA Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award (2026), the Minkowski Prize (2023), and an ERC Consolidator Grant.
