Activities: Training and Networking
The events organised as part of DZD NEXT serve as a platform for establishing and consolidating connections. This exchange of experiences between researchers at different career stages not only strengthens scientific collaboration, but also supports individual career decisions. In addition, the DZD NEXT events focus on deepening knowledge in diabetes research and its path to clinical application.

DZD NEXT Symposium
Every spring, the DZD's early career researchers organise a meeting exclusively for the DZD NEXT community. The focus here is on getting to know the colleagues and their research projects. Poster sessions and networking formats offer the opportunity to exchange ideas beyond their own specialist expertise. The early career researchers gain further inspiration from invited speakers on current topics in diabetes research.
DZD International Diabetes Research School
The DZD International Diabetes Research School in autumn is the annual highlight of the DZD NEXT programme. 80 international and national early career researchers are selected for this intensive three-day programme, which covers basic research, clinical and industrial diabetes research, as well as topics such as science communication and career development. International speakers will present their work in vivid overview lectures and with special reference to translational research. Participants will present and discuss their own research projects in poster sessions with the speakers and other participants. The DZD International Diabetes Research School usually takes place at different European locations in the run-up to the EASD conference.
Other training activities
DZD NEXT's training programme also includes tailor-made courses that focus on key skills for career development and essential methods and techniques of translational research.
In addition, DZD NEXT offers career lectures and workshops focussing on translation, entrepreneurship and networking in cooperation with the working group for early career researcher development at the German Centres of Health Research.
Travel Grants
The DZD supports short stays by young DZD scientists who want to learn new methods in international research laboratories and initiate joint research projects. Participation in conferences to present their own research results is also supported by the travel grants.
