Living well with diabetes and avoiding complications: These goals are the focus of the 12th Düsseldorf Diabetes Day on September 27, 2014 in the Chamber of Trades Building, Düsseldorf. The information day is organized by the German Diabetes Center (DDZ), the North Rhine-Westphalian state association of German Diabetes Aid –People with Diabetes (DDH-M), the Düsseldorf Chamber of Trades and – with its expertise in the early detection of diabetes and diabetes complications – the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology at University Hospital Düsseldorf.
Key topics are the prevention and treatment of late complications such as eye and kidney diseases, the diabetic foot syndrome and diseases of the nervous system and cardiovascular diseases. “The DDZ and the University Hospital collaborate closely to implement the knowledge gained from long-term studies such as the German Diabetes Study at the DDZ into optimal prevention and treatment of late complications such as the diabetic foot syndrome,” said Prof. Dr. Michael Roden, scientific director of the DDZ and director of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology at University Hospital Düsseldorf. Diabetes Day is aimed at people with diabetes, their family members and the general public, who will have the opportunity to talk with diabetes experts and health professionals from the region. Companies, associations, pharmacies and self-help groups will have stands and present their work at the accompanying Diabetes Day exhibition.
Individual measurements of blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol levels and consultations regarding foot care for people with diabetes or stroke risk are free of charge. “A special program highlight will be a live cooking show in which nutrition experts will give tips and hints about healthy nutrition,” said Lothar Rupprecht, DDH-M, State Association of North Rhine-Westphalia. Admission to the Düsseldorf Diabetes Day is free of charge.
The next Düsseldorf Diabetes Day will take place on November 8, 2015 in conjunction with the patients’ event on World Diabetes Day in collaboration with diabetesDE – German Diabetes Aid.
