The publication was one of the ten most cited articles retrieved and downloaded from the Internet of all articles appearing in the 2011-2012 issues of the journal. This was the prerequisite in order to be nominated for the so-called short list. From these ten articles, the evaluations of the members of the journal’s editorial board selected the scientists from Helmholtz Zentrum München as winners of the prize. The award is endowed with 2,000 euros.
