The initiative included measuring long-term blood glucose levels (HbA1c) and calculating the individual diabetes risk by means of the DIfE German Diabetes Risk Score®. DZD researchers informed the employees about their diabetes risk based on this data and provided advice about how to lower their diabetes risk. To determine the sustainability of the prevention advice, a follow-up examination will be offered six months later. Similar actions have already taken place in other companies.
These activities of the DZD in diabetes prevention are carried out within the scope of the DZD grant “Primary prevention of type 2 diabetes based on risk communication and health promotion using the German Diabetes Risk Score” of the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM) of Helmholtz Zentrum München at the University of Tübingen in cooperation with the German Institute of Human Nutrition (DIfE) in Potsdam-Rehbrücke.
