DZD Multicenter Studies Pause during Coronavirus Measures

To protect all people involved and to support the nationwide precautionary measures to slow down the spread of the coronavirus, the clinical study teams of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) have agreed to temporarily suspend the implementation of the clinical studies.

Based on the findings to date, the German Diabetes Association (DDG) assumes that for people with diabetes who have well-controlled blood glucose levels and no concomitant or secondary diseases, the risk is not higher than that posed by a conventional influenza virus. However, if one or more diabetes-related concomitant or secondary diseases such as cardiovascular disease or organ damage are present, the risk of a severe course of COVID-19 is increased. Due to the heightened risk of contagion, the DDG advises that these individuals take particular precautions by avoiding large crowds, public transport and regions with known cases of SARS-COV-2 .

By pausing the studies, we also want to avoid the risk of infection for the study participants. Furthermore, the study physicians are currently increasingly involved in patient care. If you are participating in one of the DZD studies and have questions, you can contact representatives of your study team at your study center by phone. Please refer to the telephone numbers listed here.
