DZD Researcher Professor Nawroth Awarded the Camillo Golgi Prize

Peter Nawroth was awarded the renowned Camillo Golgi Prize at the Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). The diabetes expert received the award for his outstanding research on the long-term complications type 2 diabetes.

Nawroth is medical director of the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Clinical Chemistry of the University of Heidelberg and an associate partner of the DZD. The focus of his research is on the mechanisms of chronic diseases – especially on microvascular and macrovascular diabetic late damage.

The EASD European Research Award, endowed with 20,000 euros, honors outstanding contributions in the field of histopathology, pathogenesis, and the prevention and treatment of the complications of diabetes mellitus. The prize is named after the Italian physician and physiologist Camillo Golgi.
