The German Diabetes Center (DDZ) (Leibniz Center for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf) was founded in 1964. The interdisciplinary institute combines basic molecular and cell biological research with clinical and epidemiological research approaches.
The DDZ’s task is to develop new approaches for the prevention, early detection, and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. It is also working on expanding the data available on the epidemiology and health economics of diabetes mellitus in Germany. The anniversary ceremony will take place on 29th October 2024 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the DDZ in Düsseldorf.
Outstanding scientific achievements in diabetes research
Around 240 employees work at the DDZ under the direction of the Scientific Director and Executive Board member, Prof. Dr. Michael Roden. The center stands for outstanding scientific achievements in research into the metabolic disease diabetes mellitus. It makes an important contribution to improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and preventing late complications and new cases.
The DDZ is an affiliated institute of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, a member of the Leibniz Association and a partner of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD).
