Honors for DZD Scientists

At the Diabetes Conference of the German Diabetes Association (DDG), which took place in Berlin at the end of May, two DZD scientists were awarded prizes. PD Dr. Natalia Rudovich received the Menarini Prize and Dr. Barbara Ludwig received the Ernst Ludwig Pfeiffer Award.

With the funds of the Menarini Prize, Natalia Rudovich of the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrücke (DIfE), a DZD partner, wants to investigate whether weight- or diet-related changes in insulin levels influence the serum concentration of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). This hormone is secreted by the heart and has a blood pressure-lowering effect. The prize, which has been awarded for the 14th time by BERLIN-CHEMIE AG, is endowed with 15,000 euros.

Barbara Ludwig of the Paul Langerhans Institute at the University of Dresden (PLID), a partner in the DZD, received the Ernst Friedrich Pfeiffer Award 2014 of the DDG for her research achievements in the field of beta cell transplantation. The 10,000-euro award is endowed by Lilly Deutschland GmbH.
