Prof. Matthias Tschöp, Scientific CEO of Helmholtz Munich, is a member of the Leopoldina. On July 11, he spoke in Halle about the beginnings of his research up to today's application; the scientific findings that laid the foundations for the studies on hormones, signal communication between the gastrointestinal tract and the brain, which led him to discover the new class of active substances known as polyagonists together with chemist Richard DiMarchi. These can effectively treat obesity and have an impact on the global obesity pandemic.
