No Cure without Research

Each year between 300,000 and 500,000 people in Germany are newly diagnosed with diabetes. In an interview at the Diabetes Congress, Professor Martin Hrabě de Angelis, a member of the board of the German Center for Diabetes Research, spoke about new approaches for early detection of the metabolic disease.

Researchers have succeeded in identifying various biomarkers that point to a developing diabetes. Further topics of the discussion were the possibilities of prevention as well as the effect of saturated fats on the metabolism. New studies show that a single high-fat meal can already negatively influence metabolism and may promote type 2 diabetes.
