DZD at the BMFTR Open House on August 23 and 24 in Berlin

DZD News

The German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) will be participating in the Open House Day of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR). Under the motto “Prevention is better than cure,” the DZD will provide information on current research findings on the pre-stage of type 2 diabetes (prediabetes) and show how targeted measures can reduce personal risk of developing the disease.

Type 2 diabetes usually develops gradually. Thanks to extensive studies conducted by the DZD, various subtypes of prediabetes have been identified for the first time. These subtypes differ significantly in terms of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and secondary diseases such as fatty liver, kidney damage, or cardiovascular disease. Early prevention can help normalize blood sugar levels – and thus prevent the development of manifest diabetes.

Interactive activities: Diabetes risk test & sugar quiz

Visitors can take the German Diabetes Risk Test (DIfE) on site to determine their personal risk of developing type 2 diabetes within the next ten years. The test for adults is simple, quick, and scientifically proven—and includes individual recommendations for reducing the risk.

In addition, the sugar quiz invites visitors to guess how much sugar is really in ketchup, energy drinks, or chocolate. Those who take part will be surprised!

Lecture: “Stop diabetes before it starts”

On Sunday (August 24), starting at 2 p.m., DZD Managing Director Dr. Astrid Glaser will present the latest findings in diabetes research on the path to personalized medicine in a lecture entitled “Stop diabetes before it starts – with knowledge from research.”

Visit us on August 23 and 24 at the BMFTR in Berlin and learn how modern research helps to detect diabetes early and prevent it in a targeted manner.
