Through the DZD Young Talent Program, the DZD provides targeted support to leaders of early-career research groups as they advance their scientific careers. The funding, which is announced annually, finances a two-year postdoctoral position to conduct an independent research project, thereby strengthening promising talent in diabetes and metabolism research.
Merly Vogt from the DZD partner Helmholtz Munich has been awarded the grant for her project “Early Imprinting of Epigenetic Aging Processes in Hypothalamic Neurons.” In this project, she investigates how metabolic disorders in early life can influence brain and metabolic health in the long term.
Leontine Sandforth from the DZD partner site in Tübingen is receiving funding for her project “Tirzepatide and Communication Between the Brain and the Body: Mechanisms, Causes of Lack of Response to Therapy, and Sex-Specific Differences in Humans.” The goal is to better understand the mechanisms of action of modern incretin-based therapies and their influence on energy metabolism.
The funded projects address key questions in diabetes and metabolic research: from the long-term effects of early metabolic conditions on brain health to the mechanisms of modern incretin-based therapies.
The DZD Young Talent Program thus creates important conditions for promoting innovative ideas at an early stage and providing new impetus for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diabetes and its complications.
