In Interview: Timo Müller on Innovative Drug Concepts for Obesity and Diabetes

DZD News

Modern drugs for obesity and type 2 diabetes are based on the interaction of various biological signals. In the interview, Prof. Timo Müller of DZD partner Helmholtz Munich explains how new drug design concepts emerge and what prospects research offers for the treatment of metabolic diseases.

GLP-1-based therapies have fundamentally transformed the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes. But research is already taking it a step further: Prof. Timo Müller, Director of the Institute for Diabetes and Obesity (IDO) at Helmholtz Munich, discusses polyagonists and innovative hybrid molecules that target multiple metabolic pathways simultaneously and release active components precisely to its destination.
