Bastian Hauck was also a valued partner and an important source of inspiration for the DZD. Through our consistently constructive collaboration, he supported us early on in incorporating the patients’ perspective more strongly into our work. He repeatedly emphasized how important it is to align research with the needs of those affected and, at the same time, to place greater focus on the early detection of type 2 diabetes.
In collaboration with the DZD, he was actively involved in this context as a founder of #dedoc and a board member of diabetesDE, participating in campaigns such as “Unerkannt unterwegs” and “Deutschland misst.” He championed initiatives like “DZD meets #dedoc° – A dialogue between young researchers and the patient voice” with great conviction, thereby strengthening the dialogue between researchers and people with diabetes in a lasting way.
We are grateful that we had the opportunity to get to know him and walk alongside him for a part of his journey. His dedication and his voice will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and all those who were close to him.
