Scientists from the DZD are featured in the EASD’s scientific program with numerous presentations and posters. In symposia and scientific sessions, they will present the latest findings from translational diabetes research. Topics include, among others: challenges in the treatment of obesity, the effects of insulin in the brain, early detection and prevention of type 1 diabetes, organ crosstalk and its significance for metabolic diseases, new findings on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (MASLD), and inflammation as an early indicator of type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related complications.
International recognition for DZD researchers
This year, the EASD is honoring three researchers from the DZD for their outstanding scientific achievements:
- Prof. Anette-Gabriele Ziegler is receiving the Claude Bernard Prize, the EASD’s highest honor, for her groundbreaking work on the early detection and prevention of type 1 diabetes
- Prof. Andreas Birkenfeld has been awarded the Camillo Golgi Prize for his significant contributions to the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes, as well as to the remission of prediabetes.
- Dr. Aaron Novikoff has received an EFSD Rising Star Fellowship for his research project on the development of more precise incretin-based therapies for diabetes and obesity.

A hub for research, exchange, and careers
Together with the Danish Diabetes and Endocrinology Academy (DDEA), the DZD will once again have a booth at the EASD in the Community Plaza. The DZD team looks forward to engaging with researchers, young talents, clinical experts, and anyone else interested. Visitors will gain insights into current research projects, career opportunities, translational achievements, and the work of the DZD.
Career paths in diabetes research: Meet the expert!
On October 1, starting at 3:00 p.m., the DZD will host an information session at its booth for early-career researchers interested in career and funding opportunities in diabetes research. DZD scientists will share personal insights into their career paths and discuss their experiences in research and professional development. Early-career researchers are also invited to take part in a prize drawing.
