Around two million people in Germany live with diabetes without knowing it. Most of them have type 2 diabetes, which develops without symptoms. A growing problem worldwide, including in Germany: more and more people are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. This comes with immense costs for our healthcare system and serious health consequences for those affected

Type 2 diabetes: Undetected, a health risk
Since the disease usually develops without symptoms, elevated blood sugar levels often go unnoticed for many years. If the diagnosis is made late, complications like cardiovascular or kidney disorders may already be present. Since October, the BZgA and Diabetesnetz Deutschland have been running a broad online campaign with various motifs to raise awareness of the free opportunity to be tested for type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Risk Test
The earlier an elevated Type 2 diabetes risk is known, the sooner preventive measures can be taken against an increase in blood sugar levels. The campaign promises to reveal the personal risk of developing type 2 diabetes by answering 15 questions anonymously. The DIfE - German Diabetes Risk Score on the national diabetes information portal diabinfo.de is embedded behind the link 'Click here for the risk test'.

The website diabinfo.de is a joint offering from Helmholtz Munich, the German Diabetes Center (DDZ) in Düsseldorf, and the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD). It provides easy-to-understand information about diabetes.
