DZD Diabetes Research School in Vienna (Stift Klosterneuburg) September 14-15, 2014

The 2nd DZD Diabetes Research School (DRS14) will take place in Vienna (Stift Klosterneuburg) right before the start of the EASD Annual Meeting.

The School's speakers list includes renowned diabetes scientists who will give exiting insights of the current diabetes research from the role of the brain to the impact of fatty tissue on metabolism.

  • Silvia Corvera (University of Massachusetts, Worcester, USA)
    Function of adipose tissue in metabolic disease
  • Eleftheria Maratos-Flier (Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA)
    The role of the CNS as regulator of energy homeostasis
  • Sree Nair (Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA)
    Insulin resistance and metabolic mechanisms
  • Susumu Seino (Kobe University, Japan)
    Mechanisms of insulin secretion
  • Bernard Thorens (University of Lausanne, Switzerland)
    Metabolic organ cross talk and central glucose sensing

  • The program will start with an evening lecture by
    Jesse Roth (Feinstein Institute, New York, USA)
    The endocrinization of biology and medicine
    on Sunday, September 14, followed by a welcome dinner.

The School will be chaired by Martin Hrabé de Angelis and Hans-Ulrich Häring, members of the DZD executive board.

Klosterneuburg is a charming historical town 10 km / 6 miles out of Vienna on the Danube.
The monastery of the Augustinian Canons order is a 900 years old meeting point famous for the medieval “Verdun Altar”, so called because of its creator Nikolaus von Verdun. Well known also for the wine growing in the surrounding vineyards it is Austrian’s eldest wine-growing estate.
The DZD Diabetes Research School will be held in the historical Augustinussaal and the Binderstüberl. A guided tour of the convent’s highlights will be offered.
