World Diabetes Day
World Diabetes Day is the only day, apart from World AIDS Day, that is officially dedicated to a disease by a United Nations resolution. The date chosen for World Diabetes Day is November 14th, the birthday of Frederick G. Banting, the discoverer of the life-sustaining hormone insulin. Since 1991, World Diabetes Day has been organized by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization.
